Timelines

What are the Timelines for the Research Approval Process?

Research Requiring Full Research Ethics Board Approval

This chart shows the length of time for the entire approval process for studies that require full board review for ethics (research involving drugs/devices/natural health products, vulnerable subjects, genetic testing or risks to privacy). The clinical trial agreement review process for industry-sponsored studies is also included in this timeline, as is the timeline for approval of grant funded applications from non-profit funding agencies.

In general, following review by the Fraser Health Research Ethics Board (REB), the decision of the REB will be issued within 5 business days to the researcher/contact person.

Minimal Risk Research That Can Undergo Delegated Review

Studies that are minimal risk in nature, in most cases, qualify for delegated review. Delegated review is conducted on a weekly basis by the Fraser Health REB co-Chairs.

In general, the decision of the co-Chair will be issued within 5 business days to the researcher/contact person.

See Process and Timelines for a detailed outline of the review process for Full Board and Delegated Reviews.
