Consent to Contact For Research

Research conducted in Fraser Health is patient focused and oriented. Research success strongly depends on patient recruitment. To facilitate recruitment, the Fraser Health Executive, guided by a fully engaged Steering Committee and stakeholders, approved an initiative which focused on the implementation of a ‘consent to contact for research purposes’ question at time of patient registration for care, within the electronic patient registration system, Meditech.

Since February 2014, during registration with a clerk at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, patients are invited to give consent to have their medical records reviewed and to be contacted in the future if eligible to participate in Fraser Health research studies.

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been developed to guide Fraser Health researchers on running a Meditech report listing patients who gave consent. If you are a Fraser Health researcher and would like to obtain access to the database of patients who gave consent, please download the SOP describing the steps required to access the data. For questions or comments, please contact Parveen Sangha (if your site is Surrey Memorial Hospital, Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre or Surrey community) or Anat Feldman (for any other Fraser Health site).
