Evaluation and Research Services congratulates the winners of five external research grant awards.
Carolyn Tayler, Director, End of Life Care, is a co-lead on a the BC Nursing Research Initiative Investigative Teams Program grant funded by the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, a provincial health research funder. She and her co-lead, Dr. Kelli Stajduhar, PhD, from the University of Victoria, received $800,000 for the project entitled “Impacts of a Palliative Approach for Nursing”.
Martha Cloutier, Director, Emergency and Trauma, has been successful in obtaining an Innovation at Work grant in the amount of $50,000 from WorkSafeBC. The project is entitled “Creating a Safe Client Handling Culture in the Challenging Environment of Emergency Departments”. The research team includes Nermin Helal, Leah Thomas-Olson and Alison Hutchison from Workplace Health.
The Canadian Lung Association and the Canadian Respiratory Health Professionals have awarded a Knowledge Translation Award in the amount of $3,000 to Elizabeth Rohrs, Respiratory Therapist, Royal Columbian Hospital. Liz used the award to present at the American Association of Respiratory Care Congress this past December.
Dr. Sonia Singh, Emergency Physician, has received a grant in the amount of $246,000 from the Vancouver Foundation to conduct the study “Developing, implementing and evaluating falls prevention programs with Aboriginal communities using participatory research methods”. Her co-applicants include Leslie Schroeder, Director, Aboriginal Health, Dr. Fabio Feldman, PhD, Manager, Falls & Injury Prevention, and Dr. Joanie Sims-Gould, Post-doctoral Fellow, University of British Columbia.
Dr. Fabio Feldman, PhD, Manager, Falls & Injury Prevention, and his co-lead, Dr. Michael McBryde, Medical Director, Residential Living, has received a Canadian Institutes of Health Research grant for Meetings, Planning and Dissemination in the area of Aging. They were awarded $9,600 for their application “Development and implementation of a Vitamin D protocol for Long Term Care facilities”. The research team includes Liz da Silva, Clinical Resource Dietician, Dr. Gordon Tse, Pharmacist, Gina Gaspard, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Residential and Assisted Living, Dr. Sonia Singh, Emergency Physician, Angela Welton, Director, Residential Services, and Dr. Vicky Scott, PhD, from BC Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport and the University of British Columbia.
